Night of Kizomba

by Obeka

/

about

Kizomba translates as 'party' in Kimbundu, a Bantu language spoken in Angola where this mesmerising romanticism and distinct sound originates. Characterised by slow, downtempo harmonies and smooth rhythms its roots reach far back to the Caribbean as 'Calypso' can easily be familiarised. Kizomba is usually sung and vocalised in Afro-Portuguese dialects and slang.

'Night of Kizomba' acts as a tribute to this unique genre using contemporary and traditional approaches to each element. Airy Pan-African Flutes, harmonic horns and swing-like bass punches draw in hypnotic feelings from start to finish. As if the melodies are talking to you.
